# Identity

Assuming you want to create a Meetup from scratch. In other words, a completely new group. You are going to need a couple of things:

## Decide the topic <a href="#decide-the-topic" id="decide-the-topic"></a>

General topics (e.g. data engineer) might appeal to a bigger audience than more specific ones (e.g. Airflow user group). However, it is not that black or white, since people attending specific ones will likely be more engaged and passionate about the topic.

Another interesting strategy is to create a group that appeals to one or more existent communities.

Part of the success of the Data Visualization Meetup was that I invited the existent Data Science community and the BI community.

## Vision of the Meetup <a href="#take-some-time-before-you-start-to-create-the-vision-and-the-rules-of-the-meetup.-here-are-some-idea" id="take-some-time-before-you-start-to-create-the-vision-and-the-rules-of-the-meetup.-here-are-some-idea"></a>

Take some time before you start to create the vision and the rules of the meetup. Here are some ideas:

* Do you prefer a lean or an impeccably-organized meetup?
* Is every topic allowed or people allowed to speak?
* Will you take the extra mile to ensure diversity and inclusion?
* Are sales talk or recruitment efforts allowed in the podium?
* Do you have a signature food/snack?
* Are you beginner-friendly or focused on experienced members?
